Capture of this fort in the beginning of the ХХ century gave the start to the Third (current) state of the Al-Saud dynasty. Now this fort is a museum.
The museum is open for the public, and you can visit it in your free time. However, I would suggest visiting it with a tour guide, that will help the stories of the past become alive in front of your eyes.
This excursion is available in the frames of the FREE cultural tour by Scientist’ Gift Program. Despite its name, it is open for all foreigners, independent of their occupation and the purpose of visit.
The free tours are held during working days, they usually start at 4 pm at the Al Masmak fort. After the fort, the group visits the largest mosque in Riyadh, Al Rajhi Mosque. There the guests can watch the evening prayer and ask their questions about Islam or life in the Kingdom. Later, they are invited for the free dinner in Najd Village restaurant. The tour finishes at around 9:30 pm.
I have been on this tour two times already, and I recommend it to all my friends who come to visit me in KSA.
More information about the Scientist’s Gift Program is available on its website.
You can apply for the tour here.
(Little secret: if you text the organizers in WhatsApp, they will answer sooner. I can share with you the contacts of the main organizer, just drop me a note in Facebook).
